ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Gaykhatu, AH 690-694 / AD 1291-1295. Dinar (Gold, 24 mm, 4.20 g, 12 h), Tabriz, AH 691 = 1291/2. Citing his name as Irenjin Turji. Within a circle, ‘al-ḥamd lillāh / lā ilāha illā Allāh / Muḥammad rasūl Allāh / ṣalla Allāh ʿalayh / wa sallam’ (‘Praise be to Allah. There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. May Allah bless him and grant him peace’ in Arabic); to right, ‘ḍarb Tabrī’ (‘Struck in Tabriz’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘ḍuriba hādhā al-dīnār bi madīnat Tabrīz sana aḥad [wa] tisʿīn wa sitta miʾa’ (‘This dinar was struck in the city of Tabriz in the year 691’ in Arabic). Rev. Within a dotted circle, ‘Hakanu Ariba / Arincin Turci / Deledkeguluk / sen Arighu’, followed by the word ‘altan’ in the right field (‘Struck by Irenjin Turji, the vice-regal governor of the Khan.
